Teen Suicide a Concern During Pandemic

An expert group of international scientists posted that suicide is culturally contagious with teens. Back in 2018, 13.5% was calculated and now in 2020 a significant increase has been documented in their medical journal Lancet Psychiatry. They stated that this pandemic causes distress and leaves many people with mental health problems and suicidal behaviors. The nation has an average of one suicide every 10 minutes and for ages 10-24 years is the second leading cause of death. This is being brought to your attention because the interruption to our young people’s normal schedule in their education, with modification in their social activities, limitations to their educational counselors and nutritional supporters, suicide among this age group has increased. Adult awareness and significant resources should be implemented to reduce the possibility of  this tragedy to  occur.  AFA 2020
